Why are Scottish #island #flights so expensive?
The issue is acute for the roughly 71,230 people who live in Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Outer #Hebrides), #Orkney & #Shetland.
For the price of a flight from Glasgow to Stornoway, you could fly from Scotland’s largest city to Alicante, Spain, on a return ticket and still have £111 left over.
That is despite the Spanish flight taking around three hours (excluding a change at Gatwick for the dates we chose at random) while the internal #Scottish flight taking only an hour.
A trip from Glasgow to #Sumburgh, Shetland Islands, on December 5, returning on December 8, would set you back £336 – for a journey lasting no longer than an hour and a half each way.
