Trump is brilliant if his purpose is to squander America's influence. But if his aim is to contain Iran's nuclear program, his war of choice provides a master class in incompetence. #quote by #ScottHorton bsky.app/profile/did:plc:nyjm4…

The Iran war is a master class in squandering a superpower’s credibility

Trump treats promises like bluffs. Allies are responding by building alternatives.

Last week, a minor geopolitical earthquake shook the Middle East. Saudi Arabia and Turkey — two nations that have been openly hostile toward one another for much of the last decade — pledged to go to war in each other’s defense. Along with Pakistan, they signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, declaring, NATO-style, that an attack on one would be treated as an attack on all. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have long had close security ties. But Saudi Arabia and Turkey have been bitter regional rivals, clashing over Qatar, Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood and, most explosively, the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, which Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared to blame directly on the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

I wanted to track this down (no link in original post I can find)... and here it is.

Note original graphic was cropped, leaving out #WaPo and #FoxNews. Not sure why, maybe viewed on small screen? That would explain "swipe" mention.

Added: Also note that in the spirit of supporting the authors I'm not reproducing the graphic, but linking the entire article. The "auto website quote" feature of #Mastodon can't quite pick it up... I see only colored columns without text. If that's all you see... please click on the link and scroll down for the entire thing. My impressions for anyone who can't view it: death by #Terrorism is WAY over-represented (#NYTimes is the worst!), our old nemeses #HeartDisease & #Cancer (50% of deaths in the real world) are hardly covered. As Vonnegut would say "So it goes...". 🙄
