When one tree becomes a bit of an obsession.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday this week, I want to share an image of a very special tree in Hainault Forest.
This ancient hornbeam is very much in the latter stages of its life. It has shed much of its crown, but still grows a healthy canopy.
Much of the trunk has hollowed and it's a haven for all sorts of insect life while its rotting remains now enrich the surrounding soils. It's believed to be at least 350-400 years old.

A bit of brightness for a Monday.
Thinking of all those struggling - it does get easier with time & there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The best thing I did during my own struggles was to talk about it. This may sound flippant, but I know how hard those times can be. Near darkness was my everyday experience for nearly a decade ❤️
During that time, the greatest challenge was to overcome my own internal resistance & self-sabotage.

I don't tend to photograph the #forest at the #goldenhour - particularly when the sun is strong.
That doesn't mean I am not out looking for images at this time of day; it's just that direct sunlight usually adds unwanted complexity to most scenes. The woods are full of chaos & need to be simplified.
Below are some images where the strong golden light did add something extra.
