Impressions from a ride on the #RhaetischeBahn #Bernina line, from #Tirano 🇮🇹 northwards to the #Engadin🇨🇭#Inn river valley and St. Moritz. Some elderly #RhB vehicles seen en route. This was in January 2020, just weeks before the pandemic severely restricted possibilities of international rail travel.

Alp Grüm🇨🇭on the #Bernina line in August 2011. Picture of an #RhB museum special: locomotive no. 182, nicknamed “Bernina Crocodile”, built 1928, is hauling two Pullman carriages. This #UNESCO world heritage line, reaching above 2,000 metres a.s.l., is said to be Europe’s highest railway crossing.

Ospizio #Bernina in the early 2000s: a consist led by two Rhaetische Bahn #RhB🇨🇭#ABe4/4 railcars has just arrived from St. Moritz. These fine vehicles, originally built in 1908 and re-modelled in the late 1940s, were almost 100 years old when the photo was taken. And this wasn’t a museum train, just an ordinary, scheduled, revenue earning, working.

#Tirano 🇮🇹 standard gauge station in September 2010. An #FS #Trenitalia #ALe803 unit in #XMPR livery is awaiting further duties. There’s a second train station here, just on the other side of the station square: the narrow gauge one, from where #RhB🇨🇭#Bernina line trains depart.
