The deeper I dive in the details of NetBeans, the more impressed I am with the codebase and build system. The original parts of NB are pretty old, and that shows, but not in a negative way. New code lives in the same repository.
The whole thing is very well maintained and combines the charms of old JDK with up-to-date code patterns.
I compare it with a great combination of well-preserved historic buildings and modern architecture.

Hi #Java Bubble. How is your dev workflow without IntelliJ (and without VSCode)?

We cancelled all our subscriptions now, currently I'm back on NetBeans and pretty happy. Will try Eclipse again, too, just to see what was done there. What are you using? Are there any great LSP servers and integrations into editors I don't know, yet? Sublime Text, Emacs, Neovim?

Genervt von IntelliJ unter Ubuntu - die Freezes sind so hart das ich sie in den Knochen spüre.
Bisherige Fixes die ich teste:
- Dark Theme, auf keinen Fall Dark Islands Theme
- VM Options im Help Menu hinzugefügt:
'-Dsun.java2d.metal=false '
- Rechsklick im Title Bar des Project, "Show Project Gradient" abwählen

Ich hoffe mal das beste, das ist ultranervig.

The first part of OpenJDK’s Project Valhalla, JEP 401 (Value Objects), has been integrated into JDK 28 as a preview feature and is now available in the early-access builds.

Value objects are immutable and lack object identity. They are distinguished solely by the values of their fields, and can be represented by Java Virtual Machines in ways that improve performance.

Hallo zusammen

… ich bin neu hier, komme aus dem Rhein-Main-Gebiet.

Letztendlich war die Ausrufung des DID (oder DUT) der Anstoß, mich mit diesem Thema zu befassen. Denn bisher habe ich um FB, Insta und Co einen großen Bogen gemacht.

Im richtigen Leben bin ich seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit Softwareentwickler im Java-Umfeld.
Mein privater Rechner-Zoo besteht aus einer Linux-Kiste (Fedora) sowie einer handvoll Raspis, welche sich liebevoll um mein Smarthome auf openHAB kümmern (der WAF muss besser werden).

Wenn ich keine fiessen Käfer jage, ist Fotografie das Thema welches viel Zeit einnimmt. Hier sind es Menschen, die ich gerne vor der Kamera habe.

Ich freue mich auf einen regen Austausch.

Developing #Java with #Gradle on #NixOS and needing multiple or different specific #JDK(s) (toolchain versions) might be a tricky with NixOS, as it's not following FHS and installed JDK(s) aren't placed in standard Linux locations.

Sharing a configuration to be added/imported into `configuration.nix`, that makes multiple JDK(s) available in /opt/java, and therefore Gradle's JDK auto-detection picks them.

I love Nix because replace #!/bin/bash at the start of a shell script with

#!/usr/bin/env nix-shell<br>#! nix-shell -i bash<br>#! nix-shell -p bash jdk21<br>

And now that script has guaranteed dependencies met. And you can use any interpreter you want, be it bash, python, or whatever.

Does anybody have a working nvim-jdtls, nvim-dap setup configured with nixvim? I can toggle breakpoints but when trying to launch a debug configuration it complains that no dap configuration is set up for Java. This should happen automatically when using nvim-jdtls. Is this maybe related to the order my plugins are loaded?
