Marina hires Jonathan Goffman as athletic director

Marina High has hired Jonathan Goffman as its new athletic director, the Huntington Beach Union High School District announced this week.

Goffman comes to Marina from the Bronx, N.Y. He relocated to Southern California with his wife to be closer to her family.

He replaces Nick Racklin, who remains the Vikings boys’ basketball coach.

“It is an honor to be announced as the next athletic director at Marina High School,” Goffman stated in the news release announcing his appointment. “My focus will always be on building good student-athletes on and off the playing field. I look forward to fostering a culture of character, commitment and teamwork, and to supporting our coaches and student-athletes in reaching their full potential, both as competitors and as people.”

Goffman earned a bachelor’s degree in education from UNLV, a master’s degree in education leadership from SUNY Cortland and post-master’s training in school building leadership from Molloy University. In the Bronx, he served as a teacher, coach, athletic director and dean of students at Mott Hall Science and Technology Academy.

“Jonathan brings a tremendous depth of experience and a genuine passion for education and athletics to Marina High School,” Marina Principal Rob Rasmussen stated in the news release. “What impressed me most about Jonathan is his commitment to developing not only successful athletic programs, but also confident, responsible and well-rounded student-athletes. He understands the importance of building strong relationships with students, coaches, families and our entire school community. I am excited to have Jonathan join our team and look forward to the positive impact he will have on Marina athletics.”
