#SNCF 🇫🇷 #Corail cars have kept a variety of design features from the 1970s when they were built, for instance the cup holders integrated into the back of the seat in front of you, door handles and locks, as well as their washroom functionalities, including the direct disposal onto the rails below … .

On the rails again. Departing from #Basel🇨🇭SBB, well from the “French railway station” with its 25kV AC catenary that is. (The “Swiss part” is electrified at 15kV AC.) Travelling on board a 200 kph #SNCF 🇫🇷 #TER regional bound for Strasbourg, composed of nine #Corail cars from the 1970s and 1980s.

An early departure from #Basel🇨🇭SBB today, from the 25 kV AC “French Railway Station” part that is. The train for #Strasbourg 🇫🇷 is a 200 kph #TER, hauled by a Class BB26000 “Sybic” electric, built for #SNCF in the 1990s. The consist includes stylish and really comfortable #Corail cars from the 1970s.

A picture taken at #Paris Est 🇫🇷 in Summer 1985, while travelling Europe 🇪🇺 with an #InterRail pass, for one month. This is, most likely, a long distance train operating over the non-electrified “Ligne 4”, given the two #SNCF #BB67400 diesels, hauling the train. Next to the #Corail cars, there’s an elderly mail van and a baggage car in the consist.

One of the classics when it comes to French locomotives: an #SNCF 🇫🇷 Class #CC72000 diesel, of the “nez cassé”, broken nose, design, ready to haul an #InterCity train, composed of refurbished #Corail carriages.

#Genève🇨🇭Cornavin to #Lyon 🇫🇷 Part-Dieu on a loco-hauled train today: a nice surprise to see an #SNCF Class #BB22200 “nez cassé” electric hauling a consist of #Corail carriages. They were built in the 1970s. In my view, they are still among the most comfortable and stylish cars around on French rails.

#SNCF 🇫🇷 #CC6520 is seen here at Aix-les-Bains in the French Alps on a #TER service in August 2004. The train is composed of #USI, #UIC and #Corail stock. In the 1970s and 1980s Class #CC6500 locos used to work SNCF‘s most prestigious trains on DC lines. They finished their careers on regional duties.

These things that stay in a box for decades. Useless, but of a certain emotional value. Like this #Munich 🇩🇪 to #Salzburg 🇦🇹 ticket and the timetable leaflet, from March 1980: D265 #Mozart. My first ever ride on an #SNCF 🇫🇷 #Corail car, which I, aged 16 back then, found comfortable, classy and stylish. And I still do, aged 60 (something).
