David Clayton-Thomas, lead singer of Blood, Sweat & Tears, dies at 84 🎤 🎶 🕯️

" Folk singer Judy Collins heard him perform one night in New York and told her friend, drummer Bobby Colomby. The drummer was a member of Blood, Sweat & Tears, a group led by Al Kooper, former member of Blues Project and a top session musician and producer who’d worked frequently with Bob Dylan. While the Kooper-led incarnation of the band splintered after releasing one album, several members regrouped around Clayton-Thomas and released a self-titled second album in 1968. The album — produced by James William Guercio, who also helmed Chicago’s albums — featured “Spinning Wheel,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” and another hit single titled “And When I Die,” setting a formula for the group’s albums that combined original compositions with well-curated contemporaneous covers of songs by Traffic, Laura Nyro, the Band, Gerry Goffin and Carole King, Motown songwriters and others. It topped the Billboard albums chart for seven weeks, and remained in the top 200 for nearly two years."

For me, it was a lifetime memory, seeing/hearing BS&T in Central Park, from 'the rocks' overlooking the stage. [July 9; see flyer]
What I experienced, I will never forget: After the beginning notes, the launch into song by Clayton-Thomas, singing "You Made Me So Happy".

"I lost at love before
Got mad and closed the door
But you said child just once more...."

That mellifluous voice echoed across Central Park and the surrounding buildings and my skin crawled...
And "Spinning Wheel" span around many heads, too. (A song about his loud neighbor!) Stories...

Rest in Peace... "You made me so very happy"

Memorial Day Weekend - Memorium

This is a 3-day Holiday weekend in the U.S., meant to be a somber and mindful tribute to the many who served "God and Country" fighting for rights, democracy, "the American Way" (when it aspired towards compassion, worldwide humanitarianism, democracy, law, rights, etc.) Many died out of respect for duty, and belief that something good was being fought for.

Today, the US is not recognizable to any adult who grew up in a golden age (figuratively!) of possibility, respect, and aspiration.
Yet those who gave all deserve our gratitude, and the concept of the USA as a beacon of democracy must also be treasured.

And one last tribute, to someone who has relentlessly pursued #truth and #respect for our values, and a need to be able to smile.
#ContextAndPerspective. Few did this with the excellence and longevity of the once-"Tiffany" #CBS legend #StephenColbert

Last Broadcast of the (late) Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

{Let it run from clip to clip for all the segments}

[List of mini-clips, by segment]

The lights have gone out at the Ed Sullivan Theater, and many feel the lights are dimming on #democracy. Along with #humor, #FreeSpeech, and #sanity itself, as a valued commodity.

So, a somber holiday weekend all around, for families, for history survivors and followers, and for fans of a 'therapeutic' late-night institution. Here now is "the last Late Show" with Stephen Colbert. With many legends paying tribute and remembering the good.
And the good intent. The good people who sacrifice, and the many in need of some relief from the nonstop #TrumpVirus / #GQP hate.

Take care. #StaySafe #StaySane Stay #Mindful - #MemorialDay 2026

Another musical bright light in the Woodstock and beyond universe of unique and unforgettable music - has left us.

Steve Winwood Remembers Dave Mason: ‘His Presence Endures’

Dave Mason is being remembered today, in light of his passing, especially for his Traffic contributions, and such legendary ear-worm songs as "Feelin' Alright', which many obits and tributes are highlighting. Yes, magical. So too are many more, and who better than Steve Winwood to highlight a few, along with vids in this Rolling Stone tribute. Some other personal favorites here, like "Medicated Goo", and a song which captured a huge chunk of my heart & soul for a long time, "Dear Mr. Fantasy".

:-( Rest in Peace & Harmony.. 🎶 🙏 🕯️

PS ... Just popped into my head as I was about to post... Another personal favorite, less well known, and perfect mood:

I tried twice to release a compilation of the most important "Death Country" bands on Suzy Q Records. Both times I failed. It's not always wise for musicians and label owners to be the same person. But I've met some impressive people. For example, T. Tex Edwards here with his iconic song Smitty from 1989, written by Johnny Legend. Enjoy!

Muddy Waters

Floyd’s bold stage presence with the band, sometimes in full drag, captivated audiences in #Austin during the Raegan era, and their songs like “No Nazi’s Friend” became a rallying cry.

“My God, a 300-pound communist drag queen who can sing like Janis Joplin,” Jello Biafra said of seeing Floyd for the first time. R.I.P. #punk #music #legend
