You should update the firmware on your #framework laptops. At least when you first get them, a bit after new ones come out, and maybe a bit before your warranty is up. Probably after that too.

I guess now it's a bit late to warn people not to update the firmware on their #framework laptops, but here is what somebody did to fix them, when the company didn't help. at all.

spoiler: it ends well, but not thanks to framework

also, the ending of the article is *epic*.

Researchers have discovered a never-before-seen #framework that infects #Linux machines with a wide assortment of modules that are notable for the range of advanced capabilities they provide to attackers.
The framework, referred to as #VoidLink by its source code, features more than 30 modules that can be used to customize capabilities to meet attackers’ needs for each infected machine.
These modules can provide additional stealth and specific tools for reconnaissance,
privilege escalation,
and lateral movement inside a compromised network.
The components can be easily added or removed as objectives change over the course of a campaign.
VoidLink can target machines within popular #cloud #services by detecting if an infected machine is hosted inside AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba, and Tencent,
-- and there are indications that developers plan to add detections for Huawei, DigitalOcean, and Vultr in future releases.
To detect which cloud service hosts the machine, VoidLink examines metadata using the respective vendor’s API.

Similar frameworks targeting #Windows servers have flourished for years. They are less common on Linux machines.
The feature set is unusually broad and is “far more advanced than typical Linux malware,” said researchers from Check Point,
the security firm that discovered VoidLink.
Its creation may indicate that the attacker’s focus is increasingly expanding to include Linux systems,
cloud infrastructure, and application deployment environments,
as organizations increasingly move workloads to these environments.

Dear #foss , #OpenSource , and #linux folks...

Can we please STOP trying to self implode the few good things we have in this world?

The world is currently on fire, the US is devolving into Facism, big tech is getting even more powerful... FOSS is about the last good thing in this world.

And yet, we're attacking #nixos and #framework because we disagree with people they're 2-3 degrees associated with.

I'm not saying we can't move things in a good direction.. but self imploding helps nobody

Reviews are coming out for the @frameworkcomputer Desktop! Lots of interesting takes to read, but we think there's a special one you don't want to miss.

Framework Desktop officially supports Fedora Linux! If you're looking for a desktop, consider the Linux support before you buy. That can make your purchase a dream or a headache. 👀

What are all y'all's laptops looking like? Are you a purist or tagger like me.

I'm choosy about my stickers, so far this is my status.

I'm spending so much of my time right now looking at Framework laptops when I already have a Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 that I'm quite happy with (though the speakers don't currently work under Linux). The big limitation for my on the Book 5 Pro 360 is that it has non-expandable 16GB of RAM and I find that a bit... restrictive though it has served me well for most of my time using it.

I can probably sell the Book 5 and get most of my money back for it and put that towards the Framework. I know it will be a step down in many areas, but... I just believe in Framework's mission and in full Linux compatibility that I can't get away from wanting it. Seems like NixOS runs well on them as well, which is my main interest and goal.

Someone local was selling their Framework but when I got in touch with them they told me they weren't going to be in the city until mid August. So why put your ad online right before you leave?

Anyways, I'm almost certain I will end up ordering a Framework at some point in the very near future.

While we're talking about Framework here... can we get a bezel in blue at some point? Feels so odd to have green, lavender and red but no blues.

I finally got #davinciresolve running under #nixos it’s technically using a fedora distrobox install, but it works fabulously on my #framework.

how are you managing multiple #NixOS #RapberryPi configurations?

I only have a new #FrameWork and legacy #System76, laptops, and my configurations are already divergent. I plan to add my Pi's into the mix, but need a better strategy.

#GitOps doesn't seem to cut it, and, though I know it would work, think I should go for something more idiomatic than #Ansible templates. I've seen some very interesting #NixOps setups, but github.com/NixOS/nixops?tab=re… says it's in maintenance mode!?!

Aaaaannnd I’m back on #nixos on my #framework laptop. #bluefin was fine but I could not run the cloud drive software I wanted to use (Expandrive) as it would install but then have issues mounting the drives. #rclone was a hot mess and I had to run #syncthing in a container. Solution to my cloud storage issue? Clean out the cruft and get them back down in size. Then use the regular sync clients ( #nextcloud desktop + #insync for the rest).
