🌅 Einen schönen Samstagabend ins Fediverse!

Langsam wird es stiller. Die Sonne verabschiedet sich hinter den Feldern, die Bäume werden zu dunklen Silhouetten und über allem liegt dieses besondere Licht, das sagt: Für heute ist genug getan.

Das Wochenende ist da – Zeit, ein wenig zur Ruhe zu kommen, den Tag hinter sich zu lassen und vielleicht einfach nur den Abend zu genießen. 🌿

Und irgendwie passt das auch ganz gut zum Fediverse: Zwischen all den Nachrichten, Diskussionen und Gedanken gibt es immer wieder diese kleinen Momente, in denen man einfach nur ein Bild, einen Gruß oder einen freundlichen Gedanken miteinander teilt. Ohne große Worte – einfach von Mensch zu Mensch. 💚

I installed Tuba, a Mastodon application for Linux. It didn't have all three columns at one time listed, but I could handle that. Otherwise, it looked like a pretty decent front end for Mastodon. Then, I found a post that I wanted to quote. Quote. Where's the quote option? There's no quote option!

Gibt es ein Tool, mit dem man Beiträge aus z.B. Friendica automatisiert auch bei Facebook posten kann? Problem: Der Verein will auf keinen Fall auf Fressenbuch verzichten Eine solche Lösung könnte aber helfen, auch in so hartnäckigen Fällen zumindest Interesse am Fediverse zu wecken.

Von unseren Gästen bis dahin keine Spur. Einige werden sich aus der Gruppe der Antifaschisten später lösen und in den Saal gehen, einer von der Afd-Truppe hatte ebenfalls ein Ticket und war später im Saal. Der 16jährige war uns bekannt und galt als "vertrauenswürdig". 😉
Hier ist das Ding, warum ein Ticketverkauf sinnvoll war, denn es wurde mehrfach gefragt:
1. Das Gildehaus hat derzeit wegen der nicht ausreichenden Belüftungsanlage ein Besucherlimit das vom Kreis überwacht wird. Wir können also entsprechend viele Tickets verteilen - in diesem Fall kostenlos, aber halt limitiert. Das lässt sich verständlich erklären und gibt wenig Raum zum Herummosern von Spontanbesuchenden.
2. Wir wissen, wer da ist, und zwar nur wir! Keine VeranstalungsSAAS-Datenkrake weiß von uns oder unseren Gästen. Danke an die hauseigene IT, Ihr seid toll!
3. Wir üben Abläufe, die wir später brauchen und gewöhnen uns vielleicht alle etwas mehr daran.

Mindestens drei der bereits erwähnten Spontangäste der ersten Minuten sind nach meiner freundlichen Verneinung übrigens mit einem "Dann nicht" schnurstracks zum AfD-Stand gegangen, wo erstmal Schulterklopfen als Begrüßungsritual angesagt war. Man denke sich seinen Teil, oder was sagt Ihr?

Das mit dem Ticketshop wäre übrigens eine tolle Anwendung für das #Fediverse in Verbindung mit einem VA, zB.

Und was hat die #Campact #Petition bewirkt?

Eine öffentliche Petition zum #Bundestag oder zu einer #Landesregierung erzeugt beim Erreichen des jeweiligen Quorums zu deren verpflichtender Beschäftigung mit der Petition.

Leider finden sich größere Mengen an Unterstützern dennoch immer wieder nur bei den inoffiziellen Plattformen.

Und das verwundert mich im #Fediverse schon. Hier sollten die meisten doch ein Bewusstsein dafür haben.

Normalerweise müsste diese #Petition alleine schon aus dem #Fediverse heraus die nötige Anzahl Mitzeichnungen massiv überschreiten.
Denn zum Mitzeichnen muss man keinen Wohnsitz in Baden Württemberg haben.
Das zeigt mir: Im Fediverse ist es wie überall. Unheimlich laut, unheimlich viel Geschrei. Wenn man mal was tun kann nur Grillenzirpen.

Ich habe Verständnis dafür, dass nicht jeder auf Demonstrationen gehen kann. Da gibt es verschiedenste Gründe für und diese respektiere ich.
Aber eine Mitzeichnung, das kann wirklich jeder machen. Wenn wir nicht mal das aus dem Fediverse heraus geschissen kriegen, dann müssen wir uns nicht wundern, wer wir sehr bald wieder unter einer blau-braunen Nazidiktatur stehen. Aber dann will ich hier auch kein Gejammer mehr lesen.

So, und jetzt kriegt endlich euren Arsch hoch!

I still believe that getting access to sports news and commentary would be one of the sure-fire ways to get more people in the Fediverse. But even after all these years, Reddit, Twitter and Instagram obviously completely dominate the space.

In the US, the NFL is starting in a couple of weeks and the NBA will come back in October. There is also the European Football (Soccer) leagues which started this month, so the thought came to mind again: what could we have that could make the conversation around professional sports more interesting...

• Specific apps or sites that act as a multi-platform client, to let you follow short clips from Loops, or posts from specific communities or athletes?
• Real time scores and match threader bots?
• A (local, user-controlled) recommendation algorithm to manage different news sources?
• Integration with fantasy leagues?

Maybe I am barking at the wrong tree and/or the majority of people here do not care about it enough, but I would like to hear some ideas to see if there is anything we could do.

While I indeed do appreciate the effort and agree with your suggestions, I feel like mentioning the #Fediverse as a whole instead of merely #Mastodon's implementation would be more true to the mission of our project.

Additionally, the proposition of a “random server” may not be as simple as you may initially assume. I feel like if they somehow end up in a server with policies they dislike, this may risk the possible inverse effect of people being even more put-off by the Fediverse due to a bad first impression.

Finally, due to the demographics of Facebook users being on the more older side, I'd like to posit that perhaps a comparison to the #Usenet #newsgroups of old would help make the explanation more pedagogically accessible. Cheers!

The legal math on media is broken. The punitive measures are not effective deterrents.

If you look at the numbers, Meta does harmful things, apologizes, pays a pittance, and still comes out ahead financially.

Zuckerberg sold out his users data to Cambridge Analytica, influencing the US election. Then he appeared before Congress like a contrite little schoolboy - "Oops! I didn't mean to accidentally cut multibillion dollar deals and sell out Facebook users. Honest mistake. I promise not to do it again ( unless the price is right! )"
Because of the math, he still came out ahead.

I left Meta's platforms a long time ago.

People who are not savvy, are locked into the Facebook walled garden, because of the Network Effect. ( "I can't leave Facebook. All my friends are on Facebook!" )

Having liberated ourselves, it is our duty to liberate others, who are still trapped, to give them their right to privacy.

Here's a plan of action:

1) Place ads on Facebook, explaining the benefits of #Mastodon

1.1) Freedom from Meta's censorship and algorithms.

1.2) A community owned, open social media platform.

2) When a user clicks, guide them through exporting their data from Facebook, and deleting their Facebook account.

3) Give them an optional questionnaire, asking about their interests, and match them with the right Mastodon instance.

4) If they skip the optional questionnaire, pick a random Mastodon instance for them.

5) Give them an option to enter into a Facebook migration registry.

6) Help them set up a Mastodon account and import their data.

7) If they opted into the migrant registry, reconnect them with their former Facebook connections, who also joined the registry. Like a reunion in Heaven with your loved ones. ☺️
