Locals are invited to have the time of their lives as the historic Lido Theater presents its inaugural Lido Legacy Live benefit concerts featuring the Righteous Brothers on Thursday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 11.
The musical duo responsible for hits like “Unchained Melody,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” and “(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration,” was originally comprised of Bill Medley and the late Bobby Hatfield. Medley also recorded the No. 1 duet “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” with Jennifer Warnes from 1987.
Medley will be joined by Bucky Heard for the two special charity shows. Heard joined the Righteous Brothers in 2016 to help recreate the groups classic sound.
The event is presented by Whittier Trust and sponsored by Fritz Duda Company; Eagle Four Partners; MSP Sports Capital; River Jetty Restaurant Group; Shea Homes; the Cannery; and Walkie and Janet Ray with proceeds benefiting the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Scholarship Program and Friends of OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar.
“We have a long history of hosting benefit concerts at the Lido Theater and are proud to continue to the tradition by supporting valuable community services such as the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguards and Friends of OASIS Senior Center,” Fritz Duda, Fritz Duda Company president and owner of Via Lido Plaza and the Lido Theater, stated in a news release.
The events get underway at 6 p.m. both nights, with a reception along the Lido Walk. Light bites and cocktails will be provided by the Cannery and other local restaurants including Lido House, Byblos Mediterranean Grill and ZPizza. Attendees can also look forward to a silent auction before the show with unique experiences available to bid on, like a meet and greet with Medley following the concert, the chance to join him on stage to sing during the concert or a rescue boat ride with the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguards.
The Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program supports children age 9 to 15 in youth ocean safety education, leadership development, lifeguarding skills, and physical fitness training. The program also aims to help participants develop a deep level of respect for the ocean environment as well as public service. The scholarship fund helps cover the junior lifeguard program’s roughly $800 tuition for teens in need of financial aid.
While the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program advocates on behalf of the city’s youth, Friends of OASIS Senior Center aids the Newport Beach’s 65 and older community by providing transportation programs, entertainment, clubs, classes and more.
The Lido Legacy Live concert begins at 7:30 p.m. both nights and tickets range from $150 to $300. The inaugural charity concert is one the Lido Theater hopes to make an annual tradition.
The Lido Theater is located in Via Lido Plaza at 3459 Via Lido in Newport Beach. For tickets for the Lido Legacy Live benefit concerts, visit thelidotheater.com.
