The military faces a severe shortage of doctors, nurses and medics and present personnel could treat as few as one in 10 wounded on the battlefields of a large-scale conventional war, a study said. The report, released by the conservative Heritage Foundation, said the armed forces face a shortage of 60,000 medical specialists. To address the deficiency, the study recommended that doctors and nurses be required to register with Selective Service.
