Negotiations failed on a plan to merge Transcon.

Merger talks were conducted with Dallas-based Time-DC, parent of one of the nation’s 10 largest trucking firms. The talks were conducted after Time-DC, which is controlled by financier Harold C. Simmons, launched an unsolicited $13-million bid to acquire 30% of El Segundo-based Transcon last October. Transcon’s board rejected the purchase offer, and the two sides agreed to take no further action.
