Lazers Tumble Out of First Place as Steamers Win, 6-4, in St. Louis

After winning a club-record five straight games, the Lazers lost their second in a row Saturday night when they were beaten, 6-4, by the Steamers at St. Louis.

The loss, combined with the Sockers’ 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Strikers, drops the Lazers into second place in the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Western Division.

The Sockers lead the division with a 15-6 record, while the Lazers, who were beaten, 7-6, by the Strikers Thursday night, are 14-7.

Second-period goals by Don Ebert and Jeff Cacciatore gave the Steamers a 2-0 lead, but the Lazers got goals from Greg Ion and Beto to force a 2-2 tie at the half.

The Steamers’ Tony Glavin, Tony Bellinger and Tim Walters scored within a 2:47 span late in the third quarter to make it 5-2. Two goals by the Lazers’ Willie Molano cut the deficit to 5-4, but Glavin’s second goal of the night sealed the win for St. Louis.
