U.S. Is Biggest Market for Chinese Carpets

PEKING — China sold a record number of carpets last year, with the largest demand in the United States, the state-run China News Service reported.
Chinese carpets range from brightly colored wools to traditional patterns in fine silk. They accounted for more than a third of U.S. carpet imports last year, worth $70 million, the report said.
Japan bought $30 million worth of Chinese rugs and Hong Kong imported $20 million worth of carpets from China, the news agency said.
