Thousands of International Harvester Co. workers in eight states returned to work after union and company officials reached a tentative agreement that ended a weekend strike against the truck and diesel engine manufacturer. The walkout had idled more than 11,000 United Auto Workers members at the Chicago-based company. The Chicago Sun-Times quoted unidentified union officials as saying the contract called for a 2.25% pay increase effective Oct. 1, 1985, and an increase of 31 cents an hour in a deferred cost-of-living allowance, retroactive to Oct. 1, 1984.
