In response to your article (Jan. 9), “Non-Priority Calls Tie Up 911 Lines,” I feel your readers could benefit from knowledge of the Los Angeles County Library’s toll-free telephone service, which might ease the burden being placed inappropriately on the 911 operators.
Community Access Library Line (CALL) has been the Los Angeles County Public Library’s Telephone Information and Referral Center since 1979. Residents of Southern California can have their questions answered in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or via TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf). CALL Librarians can answer questions on a wide range of topics from cultural events and language classes to government representatives and swap meets. Dial 1-800-372-6641 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
