Cathy Smith Released on Bail

Former rock groupie Cathy Evelyn Smith posted bail and left jail today after a judge told her attorney to decide by Feb. 11 whether she will accept a plea bargain on murder and drug charges in the death of comedian John Belushi.

Smith, using a bail bondsman, posted $5,000, 10% of her $50,000 bail, after a judge refused to reduce the figure. She was hustled out of the criminal courts building by her attorney, Howard Weitzman, who waited until most reporters had left after her court hearing. She had been at Sybil Brand Institute for Women since Jan. 22 when she voluntarily returned to Los Angeles from Canada.
