Blackout Hits Torrance Airport Area

Torrance Municipal Airport and about 500 other businesses and homes were without electricity Friday night after a power pole was knocked down as the result of a traffic accident.
Torrance police said the accident occurred at Hawthorne Boulevard and Newton Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. There were several reports of transformers blowing out at about that time, police reported.
