Favored Mitterand Is Surprised by Adored

Adored raced to a 2 1/2-length victory over favored Mitterand Saturday in the $79,100 Hawthorne Handicap at Hollywood Park.

The 5-year-old daughter of Seattle Slew, ridden by Laffit Pincay, ran the mile in 1:34 4/5 and earned $45,350 for Mrs. Ethel Jacobs of New York. Adored’s earnings total $846,477.

Adored paid $6 and $3 in beating three other horses. Mitterand returned $2.60 to place. There was no show betting because of the small field.
