Guardian Angels’ Patrols Resisted

The Guardian Angels plan to return to Tijuana today for a second round of patrolling, although the Mexican police threatened to arrest them for doing so Saturday.
About 30 of the volunteer crime fighters crossed the Mexican border Saturday afternoon to deliver clothes to an orphanage and to deter crime in a border neighborhood.
“They said we could not come in to Mexico wearing berets and T-shirts (the Angels’ customary dress), so we removed them,” Angels founder Curtis Sliwa told the Associated Press. “We weren’t going to be dissuaded by pride.”
The Angels then proceeded to patrol the Colonia Libertad area near the border, where many people who set out to enter the United States are raped and robbed.
