British Charge Iranian With Arms Smuggling

An Iranian business executive living in London was charged in court Saturday with illegally exporting military equipment to his homeland.

Salid Asefi, 37, was jailed by magistrates at Uxbridge, near Heathrow airport.

Prosecutor Charles McGeppi said the charge involved military equipment valued at $70,000. Asefi’s company was not identified.

“It is anticipated that there will be a number of further charges and the figure involved will be in excess of 1 million pounds ($1.38 million),” McGeppi told the court. No further details were given.
