Soviet Sailor Hides, Defects in Canada

Associated Press

A Soviet sailor who had hidden in Canada for several days has reported to immigration authorities and asked for permanent residence, an official said.

There have only been a handful of Soviet defections in the city, which is visited regularly by Soviet vessels, Dunham added.
