MIAMI — The city of Havana could be dry by late fall unless there is heavy rainfall before then, its mayor said in a Havana radio broadcast Thursday.
“The present situation is grave,” Oscar Fernandez Mel said in the Cuban broadcast, which was monitored here. “If we don’t have rainfall in appreciable amounts in October or November, the total water reserve will be exhausted.”
Fernandez said it probably will be necessary to bring in supplies from neighboring provinces.
