Monday is the deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 school and special district elections. If you have moved or changed your name, you must re-register to vote. To be eligible to vote, you must be at least 18 by election day and a U.S. citizen residing in Los Angeles County. Monday is also the first day absentee ballots will be available from the registrar-recorder’s office, which provides information weekdays at (213) 721-1100.

The latest effort is coming from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. They just announced a $3 million program in conjunction with some nonprofits groups to test and clean the soil at homes still standing in the areas impacted by the Eaton Fire.
