One of eight men charged in connection with fixing harness races at Toledo’s Raceway Park in Ohio has been convicted of conspiring to commit bribery in a sporting event.

Charlie Marshall, 50, of Canada pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted that he took $400 to keep his horse from finishing in the top three positions in two 1983 races. Marshall is a former driver.

U.S. District Judge Don J. Young delayed sentencing pending an investigation. Marshall, who is free on $15,000 bond, could face a possible prison term of five years and a $10,000 fine.

Five other men have been convicted as a result of a 19-count indictment stemming from an FBI investigation of race fixing at the track. Two cases are pending.
