Churches Advised to help in AIDS Crisis

Associated Press

A Duke University Divinity School professor says that regardless of what views are held about homosexuality, Scriptures make clear that churches should take a responsibility in dealing with the AIDS crisis.

“AIDS victims are people in need, and the new Testament clearly teaches ministering to people in need,” says James M. Efird.

Efird, who also is an editor for United Methodist Abingdon Press, suggests that the church community assume a constructive role of educator in an effort to reduce panic and prejudice.
