AIDS Medication Takes Another Step with FDA

Newport Pharmaceuticals International Inc. moved a small step closer to approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of its proposed AIDS medication when the federal agency gave the company permission to file an application for review of the drug for domestic use.

Newport Pharmaceuticals currently markets the drug, Isoprinosine, in 35 foreign countries, including France, Ireland, Italy and West Germany, but only filed for domestic approval in September.
