Dannemeyer’s Use of Percentages

Re the response of Rep. William E. Dannemeyer (R-Fullerton) to the Joe Bell article (Nov. 3):
Dannemeyer seems to have problems with his mathematics. He refers to 91%, but neglects to remember it is 91% of 27%, which in my book is a mere 25%. I would say that this is far from an “outstanding” response. I can hardly accept 27% as an “overwhelming agreement.” A majority would have been a minimum to represent “agreement,” and a lot better than that should be required before the term “overwhelming” is justified.
Joe Bell was obviously being generous when he called the response divided. I would call the response very unenthusiastic at best.
