Weak Becomes New Moorpark Mayor

James D. Weak was elected mayor of Moorpark by his City Council colleagues Monday night. But, as Weak thanked the council for the unanimous vote, he said the history of the largely ceremonial post made him wonder what the future holds for him.

Noting that the city’s first mayor, Leta Yancy-Sutton, was frequently awakened by 3-a.m. telephone calls, and that a truck hit the house of the second mayor, Albert Prieto, Weak said: “I do this with some hesitation. I’m not sure what’s in store for me.”

Weak, 40, is a business manager for Hughes Aircraft Co. Thomas C. Ferguson, 66, was unanimously elected mayor pro tem.
