Campaign Finance Vote Delayed

WASHINGTON — The Senate avoided a showdown vote on special-interest campaign financing today after leaders agreed to a thorough study of the issue leading to floor debate early next year.
The agreement scrubbed a planned roll-call vote on legislation that would have imposed limits on the amount of campaign money congressional candidates can accept from political action committees. Supporters of the plan did not force a vote on it after Republican leaders reversed themselves and urged the Senate to reject their motion to table--and thus kill--the PAC limitation plan.
