The stepson and youngest son of a Mexican diplomat found shot to death with his maid in his Moscow apartment have confessed to the Oct. 30 slayings, the Mexican Embassy said. A statement in English said Soviet authorities had informed the embassy that the killing of Manuel Portilla Quevedo, a specialist on the Soviet economy, was “due to family problems.” The maid apparently was “murdered in order to eliminate her as a witness.” The statement added that Portilla’s stepson, Jorge, 22, and son Jose, 15, had confessed to the slayings and had been formally charged.
