Alpha Micro Selling New Microcomputer Systems

Alpha Micro said it introduced two new microcomputer systems that are more powerful than its current line of small-business systems.

The Santa Ana-based computer maker said the two new units, which will sell for $22,915 to $33,085, are more efficient in processing and have a capability for greater storage.

For its fiscal second quarter ended August 25, the company reported a net loss of $622,000 compared to net income of $906,000 a year earlier. Sales for the latest period totaled $12.4 million, compared to $13.2 million.

The company attributed the loss to the industry-wide slump, research and development and an investment in its new video technology division.

The company said it expects to report results for its fiscal third quarter in about a week.
