Tenneco said its profits fell 37.7% in the fourth quarter of 1985, in part because of lower demand for natural gas and the closing of plants that make farm and construction equipment. For the year, profits dropped 72.7% to $172 million while revenue rose 4.1% to $15.27 billion.
