Eggs, Apples Can Pay for Farmers’ Vacations

From Reuters

A West German travel club is offering farmers a weekend away from the farm--for 300 eggs or 130 pounds of apples per person.

Visitors can also pay in potatoes, hay or oats, the company, Ferienclub Lueneburger Heide said Tuesday.

The scheme is designed to attract farmers in the off-season and promises them a four-course meal, breakfast and a Saturday night stay at the club in north Germany’s Lueneburg area.

A spokesman said the scheme appeared to be catching on with farmers and that the produce was used to feed the club’s 60 horses--and some of the vacationers.
