Bomb Threat Brings N.Y.-to-Atlanta Jet Down for Search

PHILADELPHIA — An Eastern Airlines 727 bound from New York to Atlanta with about 100 people aboard made an emergency landing in Philadelphia today after an Egyptian passenger said he had a bomb in his attache case, authorities said.
No bomb was found and police said they did not know whether the statement to a stewardess by Amar Sherin Osman, 24, identified by his student visa as an Egyptian national, was intended as a joke.
The FBI in New York said that the attache case was removed from the plane but that it did not contain a bomb. The plane was searched for explosives but none were found.
No one was injured. After the incident, passengers reboarded the jet and it left for Atlanta.
