Consumer confidence slipped last month.

According to a Conference Board survey, the group’s consumer confidence index was 96.7 in March, down slightly from February’s 96.9 reading. But a spokesman for the survey said the confidence level is still stronger than expected. The March survey of 5,000 families found that a growing number of Americans--21%, up from 18% in February--believe that business conditions will improve in the next six months.
