The Army is halting the distribution of 6.7 million cases of field rations valued at about $250 million because random inspections disclosed microscopic pinholes in the plastic packages of some of the ready-to-eat meals, the Pentagon said. There were no reports of any ill effects as a result of eating the rations, a Pentagon spokesman said in Washington. The Army said the rations would be kept in military warehouses until a thorough inspection “reaffirmed acceptable packaging.”
