Viewpoint / Letters : What’s Soccer Got to Do With NBA Championship?

I love reading Mike Downey’s columns. Love it. I could read Mike Downey’s columns hour after hour after hour, right up until he says something intelligent. I had bet $20 that the annual “I hate soccer” column wouldn’t run until next week.

I picked up The Times to read his latest masterwork on the front page of the Monday Special and I did see a terrific sports column--Scott Ostler’s piece on Larry Bird. Both of Mike Downey’s readers do not care if the Boston Celtics just won the NBA championship.
