Bert Blyleven has obtained the Minnesota Twins’ approval to become the first player in the history of the American League team to wear a beard, but it’s costing him.
Blyleven, who will make $1.3 million this year, told the Minneapolis Star and Tribune he has agreed to pay daily $50 fines to charities of his choosing. The fines began Saturday and will total $5,000 if he keeps the beard until the season ends.
