A man was killed and his wife injured Monday when they were struck by a bus as they tried to cross a busy Oceanside street, police said.
Carl Haynes, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 1700 block of Mission Avenue. Mary Lou Haynes, 59, was taken to Tri-City Hospital with a broken left arm.
An Oceanside police spokeswoman said the couple were crossing Mission Avenue just east of Barnes Street about 5:55 p.m. when they were hit by an eastbound North County Transit District bus.
No one on the bus was injured. Oceanside police are investigating.
