The Tustin City Council voted unanimously to require drug tests of all applicants for city jobs. However, the council of the Orange County city turned down additional proposals from Mayor Donald J. Saltarelli that mandatory lie-detector tests and background checks be required for all prospective employees. The new program excludes current employees from testing unless there is “probable cause” to suspect drug abuse.

The latest effort is coming from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. They just announced a $3 million program in conjunction with some nonprofits groups to test and clean the soil at homes still standing in the areas impacted by the Eaton Fire.
