A La Mesa man apparently shot and killed his wife and himself Wednesday in the couple’s apartment in the 7700 block of Saranac Place, La Mesa police reported.
In response to a call from a neighbor in the complex, officers found the bodies, each with a bullet wound in the head, on a bed next to a gun.
Deputy Coroner Everett Mauger said Richard Keith Hodges, 36, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his wife, Lori Lynn Hodges, 26, was killed by a bullet fired from close range.
Police said it appears the husband shot his wife, possibly as she slept, and then shot himself.
