NBC Homers With World Series

CHICAGO — NBC scored a solid ratings triumph over ABC with its coverage of the final 1986 World Series game.

Going head to head with Monday Night Football, Game 7 of the World Series between the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox socked the Washington Redskins-New York Giants telecast in the 12-city overnight ratings. NBC’s World Series coverage earned a whopping 39.0 rating and 53 share compared with ABC’s 13.8 rating and 20 share for the football game. At one point in the later innings, NBC’s share was 63% of the viewing audience.
