Texas football Coach Fred Akers, who has five years left on his contract, has responded to reports that he will be fired by saying he would appreciate a vote of confidence from Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds.
“Yes, I would prefer one,” Akers said. “But that’s not my call.”
The Longhorns’ 3-4 record is their worst through seven games in 20 years. “Fire Fred” bumper stickers have appeared throughout Austin.
Dodds said he would have nothing to say on Akers’ status until the season ends.
