Bones thinned by osteoporosis regained some thickness with a new treatment that shows promise for millions of Americans suffering from the disease, a researcher said. “I wouldn’t want anyone to think we’ve come up with a cure for osteoporosis,” said Dr. Robert Neer, who headed two preliminary studies at Massachusetts General Hospital. “The results are encouraging, but they are also preliminary.” The new treatment involves daily injections of a synthetic form of the parathyroid hormone, which regulates the body’s use of calcium.
