Citing decreased job security and an inadequate wage offer, more than 100 machinists went on strike Tuesday against a Clairemont manufacturer of rubber products.

The International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said that the company’s final offer of a 60-cent-an-hour increase over three years does not match the union projection of a 10% increase in the cost of living.

The union said that the Accurate Products Division of Lear Siegler Inc., 4370 Jutland Drive, also is seeking to send work to a plant in Tijuana, which could threaten as many as 15 jobs in Clairemont.

The company refused to comment on the strike.

The machinists, who currently make an average of $7.26 an hour, approved the strike by a 97% vote Saturday, the union said.
