The State - News from Dec. 1, 1986

A wrong-way driver who crashed on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and fled on foot was arrested after falling off a catwalk on the bridge into a Fire Department emergency net, the California Highway Patrol said. Sgt. Kevin Kelly said Ralph Gregory Collinson, 42, of Mountain View, was booked for investigation of driving under the influence of drugs, auto theft, possession of stolen property, hit and run, driving on a suspended license and driving the wrong way on a freeway. “He was very, very disoriented, dazed, despondent, depressed,” Kelly said, adding that Collinson told officers he had taken sedatives and smoked cocaine before the accident. Collinson was hospitalized in San Francisco for observation, but did not suffer serious injury, Kelly said.
