Dow Soars 43 to a New High

NEW YORK — The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials rose 43.03 points--the third-biggest increase ever--to close at a record high. Analysts said the gain resulted from a general improvement in the market’s mood that snowballed as the session progressed.
The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials closed up 43.03 at 1,955.57. The previous closing high was 1,919.71 on Sept. 4.
New York Stock Exchange volume was about 230.35 million shares compared with 133.75 million shares Monday.
