Community College Basketball : Mase Gets 19 as OCC Rolls

Rob Mase scored 19 points to lead Orange Coast College to a 96-68 victory over East Los Angeles Thursday night in the opening round of the Miles Eaton Tournament at OCC.
The Pirates (8-0) advance to semifinals tonight against Imperial Valley at 8:30.
Mase scored eight consecutive points midway in the second half to take the Pirates from a 51-51 deadlock to a 59-53 lead.
Chuck McGavran scored 12 of his 14 points for OCC in the second half. Matt Judd scored 12, and Brad Davis 11 also for OCC.
In other Miles Eaton play:
Imperial Valley 92, Long Beach City 89--Robert Cantrell scored 24 points and Kevin Hood 20 for the Arabs (3-2). The Vikings (4-1) play East L.A. in the consolation round at 4:30 p.m.
Mt. San Antonio 77, MiraCosta 55--James Jones scored 28 points and Cletus Jarmon added 18 for the Mounties (2-2) who now play Santa Barbara in the first quarterfinal tonight at 6:30.
Charles Porter scored 16 for MiraCosta (1-6) which faces Mt. San Jacinto in the consolation quarterfinal at 2:30 today.
Santa Barbara 65, Mt. San Jacinto 42--Reynold Baly scored 15 points and James Gama and Jim McCoy 12 each for the Vaqueros (7-1). Dwayne Richey scored 13 for the Eagles (3-4).
In the second round of the Antelope Valley Tournament:
Riverside 93, Golden West 90--Darryl Rounds scored 24 points and Jim Stewart added 23 to pace Riverside’s victory at Lancaster.
In the first round of the Grossmont Tournament:
Rancho Santiago 85, San Diego Mesa 57--The Dons built a 34-19 halftime lead and were never headed as Howard Cole scored 21 points and Chris Jefferson added 16 for Rancho Santiago.
In the first round of the women’s Cypress Tournament:
Cypress 87, Palomar 58--Freshman Stacy Yakota scored 25 points to lead Chargers.
Orange Coast 78, Compton 65--Lisa Schumaker scored 22 points for the Pirates who play Riverside tonight in the semifinals.
